Where Should I Store My Skincare?
Do you find yourself with a lot of skincare products but have no idea where to put them? Or maybe you’ve been keeping them all in the bathroom or perhaps they’re everywhere in your bedroom?
Sure, it’s convenient to have your skincare in the bathroom, since you do wash your face in there, but be wary! Bathrooms tend to change temperatures and are often damp and warm after a shower, which can affect the ingredients of your skincare; not to mention the bacteria from the toilet and sink that can sneak in your products 😨
If you find yourself asking the titled question, we’ve listed common skincare products and where they’re best kept!
1. Cleansers
These are best kept in a dry, cool place like a vanity or bathroom cabinet! If you like to wash your face in the shower, make sure to keep the container sealed and store it away from the shower afterwards to avoid bacteria from sneaking in.
2. Toners/Essences
This can be tricky as it depends on the formulation and ingredients! If you’d like a cool treat for your skin, make sure your toner/essence doesn’t have any type of oil in the ingredients before storing in the skincare fridge as it could change the formula and texture. Otherwise, these should be kept in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
3. Serums
Check your serums the same way you would a toner or essence as they contain more potent ingredients. Serums come in different formulations so it’s best to look into what the main ingredient is and go from there.
Some serums are light sensitive so it’s even better for them to be kept in a skincare fridge while some are fine to be kept at room temperature. An example would be Vitamin C and Retinol serums! They’re best kept in the fridge for longer shelf life. If you do place your serums in the fridge, keep an eye out for their formula to ensure they don't start to separate.
4. Moisturizers/Creams
This also depends on the formulation to determine where it can be kept. If your moisturizer has a thicker consistency, it’s best to store it in a cool, dry place as placing this in the fridge could change the texture of the product.
If you happen to have a more gel-like moisturizer, these can be placed in a skincare fridge if you’d like a cooling sensation during application.
5. Sunscreen
In one of our Tiktok videos we talked about where to best keep your sunscreens. These should definitely stay in a cool and dry area that is away from sunlight.
6. Sheet Masks/Eye Patches
Sheet masks and eye patches can be stored at room temperature, so long as they’re away from direct sunlight. They’re perfect to place inside a skincare fridge as a cooling and soothing treat during your skincare routine.
7. Wash-off Masks
Storing wash-off masks depends on its ingredients. If the mask is any type of clay mask, these are best kept at room temperature and not in a skincare fridge as it could harden the consistency. Make sure these are fully sealed after use!
If your wash-off mask is more of a gel-like consistency, these would be great to store in a skincare fridge for the cooling effect.
8. Skincare Tools
Make sure to keep your skincare tools in a clean container to keep away from dust and humidity. It’s also good practice to clean these tools before and after each use!
