The Secret To Getting Rid Of Acne
We all know how annoying it can be to wake up and find out you have a huge pimple on your face. No matter how many treatments or products you use, it just feels like nothing works! Well we here at FaceTory compiled a bunch of lifestyle tips, and of course, skincare tips, to make your acne elimination process easier!
Change your Pillowcase
We might think that our pillowcases are the least of our worries, but let’s remind ourselves that our face and body touches them every night… All the dirt that accumulates can be one of the main reasons as to why your skin gets pimples. The ideal is to change or wash your pillowcases every other day or after 3 days.
If you want to go a step further, silk pillowcases are recommended for those with both acne-prone and sensitive skin! While silk pillowcases are known for their benefits for keeping hair smooth, they can actually help with wrinkles! Silk pillowcases are less abrasive than normal pillowcases, allowing your skin to be comfortable while you sleep!
Double Cleanse
Double cleansing has been a standard practice in Korea for the longest time, and it is now becoming more popular here in the West! Double cleansing does not mean just washing your face twice with the same cleanser, it’s about washing your face with two SEPARATE types of cleansers!
The most common first step in double cleansing is washing with an oil cleanser as this can really sink into the pores and rid it of all of the dirt that’s lodged in there! And for those who wear makeup, oil-based cleansers will slough it right off so your skin can be ready to absorb the next cleanser’s benefits! After using the oil-based cleanser, the second cleanser should be more gentle or hydrating, because you do not want to over-strip your skin of its natural moisture. It’s important to first take it slow when double cleansing because each skin is made uniquely so what may work for someone else, may not work for you! So test it out carefully before fully incorporating it into your routine!
Lessen the Amount of Actives
You may have heard the word “active” or “active ingredient” being thrown around here and there in the skincare community, but what exactly is an “active”, and can overusing it actually cause more acne?
The short answer is actives are an ingredient in a product that addresses whatever skin concern it’s meant to target. For example, if you are getting a cleanser that is claiming to treat acne, the active ingredient in that product could be something like salicylic acid.
Other examples of active ingredients include retinol, niacinamide, vitamin c, glycolic acid, and more! Make sure to test how often to use these ingredients as overusing products that have active ingredients can damage your skin barrier, causing you to experience even more breakouts!
We know how tempting it is to try the newest product that’s blowing up on social media, but you’re actually putting lots of stress onto your skin by putting on active ingredients without giving it time to prep. Which is why we say to test out a product every other day before you incorporate it to see if it’s benefiting your skin and to give your skin some time to adjust!
