Don’t Do These Skincare Mistakes
When it comes to skincare, we all had to start somewhere. You may experience some mistakes but that's okay! You continue to learn~ Based on our popular Skincare Mistakes series, here are the most common skincare mistakes we’ve garnered and our solutions for each one!
Not Washing Your Face Long Enough
Let’s start with the basics: Cleansing.
Totally a no-brainer right? You dispense on your fingers, massage it on your face, and rinse it off. Easy! But it turns out, there are a few tips you should keep in mind so you’re not just rinsing your money down the drain. When you wash your face really fast, your skin doesn’t really get the benefits the cleanser could be offering.
So here’s how to wash your face to get the most out of your cleanser:
1. Lather the cleanser in your hands until it’s foamy and then massage it to damp skin.
2. Make sure to massage it in circular motions for 60 seconds before you rinse off with lukewarm water.
Applying Hyaluronic Serums on Dry Skin
A popular ingredient like Hyaluronic Acid is well known for its hydrating benefits! But just to make sure that you’re using it correctly, we’re here to help you out.
To help keep your skin plump and smooth, apply Hyaluronic Acid on damp skin so it can lock in moisture to hydrate your skin. As a humectant, this ingredient works best when applied to a damp complexion, so this can be right after you wash your face or after a toner!
Changing Skincare Products Too Frequently
With so many skincare products available in the market—all beautifully packaged and promising to help with your skin concerns—it can be overwhelming and you end up wanting to try them all. OR, you get impatient and buy another product to see if it will work better for you.
The truth is, it’s not good for our skin to be introduced to different skincare products too frequently. It takes time for our skin to adjust to products and if we keep switching, our skin might have a harder time recovering.
On average it can take 4 to 6 weeks for products to show results. So keep this in mind when trying that new face wash or serum! Give it time to prove itself and be consistent!
Picking at Sebaceous Filaments
We get it. Sometimes we’ll stare at our pores and want to scratch the little black dots off! And sometimes we succeed but what we’re left with is the gaping hole where the sebaceous filament was and that quick feeling of satisfaction that immediately turns into regret 😢.
Sebaceous filaments are naturally occurring in the skin and picking at them could injure the skin and cause scarring. Not to mention that once you’ve removed the sebaceous filament, the pore will just fill up again.
The best way to deal with them is to make sure your skin’s always hydrated and to use BHA every two days or so, to help unclog pores from excess sebum. While it may not remove it permanently, it’s a great way to balance oil production and minimize the look of sebaceous filaments!
Applying Pimple Patches in the Wrong Order
Are you also guilty of applying the pimple patch as the last part of your routine? Don’t worry, we got you covered. To get the most out of your pimple patches, make sure you apply it right after cleansing before the rest of your skincare routine. This way, it sticks to your skin better and your pimple can just focus on the hydrocolloid healing it and not get further irritated by other skincare products.
