Skincare for Kids and Teens
Today, we wanted to talk about a topic that we think is super important- skincare for kids and teens! And although skincare is for everybody, what you need (and what your skin can actually take) might vary depending on several factors! And you guessed it! One of those factors would be age. Children and teens should be careful when it comes to skincare because they don’t need the same concentrated ingredients that adults need. So today, we're going to go over what young people should avoid and what they should definitely include! Check it out below! :D
What products kids and teens should avoid:
Ingredients that may cause skin irritations:
- artificial fragrance, sulfates, parabens, and artificial colors
Active ingredients that can be too harsh on young skin:
- forms of Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) and Vitamin A (Retinol)
Exfoliating products that can be a bit too harsh and abrasive to the skin
- physical exfoliators/scrubs, high concentrations of BHA
Essential oils
- especially citrus oils (Lemon, Grapefruit, Bergamot, etc.)
To be extra safe, products should be tested by a dermatologist (which is usually noted on the packaging) and children should always patch test! If your child or teen struggles with acne, we recommend talking with a professional dermatologist to find the perfect product for their skin!
What products kids and teens should use:
- Gentle products that are artificial fragrance-free
- Mineral-based sunscreen
- Simple, hydrating products
Overall, kids and teens don’t need a complicated routine with ingredients like retinol. A simple, solid skincare routine would do just fine. A big tip is to NOT dehydrate your skin, even if you’re oily. Hydration is key to healthy skin!
We really recommend FaceTory Everyday Masks and Artemisia Products because they're super gentle and FaceTory Clean!
Thanks for reading and we hope this helped! We're planning to make more blogs talking about skincare basics for teen skin. Please look forward to it!! :D
