The Importance of a Facial Toner
(Please bear with us as we set the tone. Heh, get it? Buh dum tss đ„)
Several years ago, during dark times, toner was used as a second step to cleansing your face. It was mainly produced and applied to help remove excess makeup and oil with powerful astringent properties. Little did we know, this kind of toner was drying out our skin. Yikes!Â
Luckily, the skincare and beauty industry evolved! Yay! We can all breathe a sigh of relief. Now, toners function in a completely different way! They work to hydrate, bring back essential nutrients, and balance the skin. There are also pore-refining/clarifying toners that help cleanse the skin without feeling like your skin has been stripped of moisture. Theyâre gentle formulas packed with skin-loving active ingredients to help your skin stay hydrated before applying other products.Â
How to Use Toner:
Youâll want to apply toner after cleansing. You can soak a cotton pad and gently wipe it across your face, or you can apply the toner directly on your hands and gently pat the product in.Â
Remember, skincare is all about prepping the skin and toner is a must for that! This step will ensure that your skin is hydrated before you apply other serums/ampoules, treatments or moisturizer. Â

Try the Trend:
There is also a popular trend in Korea called the 7 skin method. Basically, you apply and reapply your toner as much as 7 times. The idea is to get your skin as hydrated as you can before applying anything else.Â
Our main tip for this method out is to choose a gentle and simple water-based toner or essence. Avoid toners that contain alcohol, and/or acids (like AHA, BHA, or PHA) when following this method. You might also want to start off with 3 layers first, just to see how your skin likes it, and then slowly work your way up to 7. Make sure to check in with your skin to see how your skin reacts. If your skin starts to feel uncomfortable, or if you notice small bumps or texture on your skin, then the toner you're using may be too concentrated for this method.Â
Also, please keep in mind that this method doesnât have to be done daily! Just incorporate it in when you feel like your skin needs extra hydration. And depending on your skin type, you may even skip the moisturizer if you feel like your skin is hydrated and moisturized enough! Donât skip out on moisturizer during winter though! A big no-no!
Thanks for reading and always, just keep glowing!
