Ingredient 101: Ferments
What type of skin benefits the most from this ingredient?
All skin types can benefit from ferments, but thanks to its hydrating abilities, this ingredient is especially helpful for dry or combination skin types. Because it also helps repair and firm skin, ferments are also ideal for aging skin, to help restore its youthful glow.
What benefits does it have on the skin?
If you’ve ever had kombucha or kimchi, you’ve probably heard about how good fermentation is for the microbiome and your gut health. If you think of your skin as a living organ, then it shouldn’t be too surprising to know that fermentation can help the microbes there, too! Fermentation allows ingredients to break down, and leads to the creation of Amino Acids, AHAs, and other powerhouse vitamins! And when this is applied to skincare it makes ingredients more potent and absorbent, allowing them to do everything from hydrating dry skin to clearing acne-prone skin and smoothing skin tone and texture.
If you're interested in trying out products containing ferments, we highly suggest checking out the Urban Calm collection. Each product is formulated with a specific fermented ingredient that aims to target specific skin concerns.
That’s a wrap on today’s 101 on Ferments. Stay tuned for more informed skincare tips!
